The Real Enemy by Kathy Herman!

Brill Jessup becomes the first female police chief in Sophie Trace, Tennessee, and soon faces a series of bizarre disappearances that sends chills through the townspeople.

Brill's investigation runs headlong into a nineteenth century legend that claims the "Red Shadows" the spirits if the Cherokee who were driven from the land, roam the countryside and wreak havoc on the decedents of those who settled there. Brill thinks it's absurd but soon discovers that the people who grew up with the legend are convinced the authorities are withholding the truth. The media can't get enough of the story, and panic sets in when new facts seem to support the story.

Brill uses the case to avoid dealing with her husband, Kurt's affair. She's never going to forgive him. So why can't she just end it?

As the case heats up, so does Brill's anger. Based on Romans 12:21 "Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good," the real enemy may be closer than she thinks.

The Real Enemy by Kathy Herman is a heartwarming novel that will capture your attention in every way. Not only is this book about a mystery but it’s also about a broken marriage which in time causes a broken family. Brill Jessup has to deal with a lot of things in this story, and Kathy Herman writes it well. Kathy brings up many situations in this story, some that are mysterious outwardly and others that go way deep into the character’s hearts and lives. This is the first book I’ve read from Kathy Herman, not being a very big reader of mysteries, but truthfully this book left me wanting more. I can tell you that I will definitely be picking the second book at the bookstore, the sooner the better. Kathy Herman did an amazing job writing this story, the details in depth and the feelings of the characters even more so. I would definitely recommend this book to my readers. The Real Enemy definitely has the potential to be a best seller!

Have an amazing Thanksgiving!

Transformers Two, Good or Bad?

Transformers... more than meets the eye...

With the help of the Autobots, the soldiers of NEST, and an adversary-turned-ally, Sam and Mikaela must uncover the secret history of the Transformers presence on earth, and the sacrifices that have to be made to save if from an ancient threat sworn on returning here for revenge... an ancient Decepticon named THE FALLEN.

Some of you may have read the Transformers comics and even watched the TV show when you were younger. I, however, was never really into comic books and wasn't even born when they came out. But earlier this year when I saw the first Transformers movie, I ended up loving it. Same for the second one, except for a few things. There was a lot of bad language, profanity, and adult situations. But, if there wasn't any of that, it would truly be an awesome movie. It was disappointing to see all these things, and I hope that in the future the directors would see that these things aren't necessary to make a really great movie. I wouldn't recommend this movie for little kids, mostly because of the bad language and adult content. The thing I really liked about this movie was the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, and how the government was involved in all of it. So can Sam and Mikaela save the world once again, with the help of the Autobots? Or will The Fallen end up having his revenge and take over the planet? This movie has all the characters from the first one, plus a few new faces- or should I say Autobots...?And yes, for all Transformer-loving people out there, Bumblebee is back to help save the day!

Transformers... robots in disguise...

The Secret by Beverly Lewis

In the seemingly ordinary Amish home of Grace Byler, secrets abound. Why does her mother weep and wander in the night? And why does her father refuse to admit something is dreadfully wrong? Then, in one startling moment, the quiet life Grace has known is irrevocably altered, leaving her to question all she has been taught about love, family, and commitment.

What would you do if you woke up in the middle of the night to find your mother leaving you and your family with no explanation as to why? And what if you father wouldn't do anything about what was going on? Follow Grace Byler and her family as she finds out what's really behind all that's going on with her loved ones. Beverly Lewis is definitely one of my all-time favorite authors, so when I heard there was a new series coming out earlier this year, I pretty much freaked out. The Secret has the story of Grace, Lettie, and Judah Byler, as well as Heather Nelson, an Englisher that finds her way to Lancaster County. Although a little slow at times, I found my attention getting captured and wondering why Mrs. Lewis can't write faster. This book definitely wasn't a disappointment, because I know from personal examination (this may just be my opinion) that the first in Mrs. Lewis' series usually capture your attention, the second always leaves you dying for the last one, and the final book is always the best. And because of that, I'm definitely looking forward to reading more about Grace and the rest of the gang. Full of mystery, heartache, and confusion, The Secret is one that will leave you guessing until the end, and even then you'll still be dying to know what happens.

Elyssa

Relient K- Forget and Not Slow Down!

Alright this review is pretty hard for me to write being an absolute HUGE Relient K fan. So, I’ll have to ask you to bear with me. Relient K always amazes me with each new album they release whether it’s the songs they started out singing with their funny but serious way; or their more matured sound. Either way, I think, they hit the ball each and every time they put lead to paper. Forget and Not Slow Down is as they call it more of a break-up CD. It’s a compilation of songs that lift your spirits and just make you feel good. As for the Christian side, I have to be honest and say that I still haven’t detected anything in this particular album. Every time I buy a Relient K CD I expect to find somewhat of a hint of Christianity, and every time so far I have found just that. But with this one it seems like they focused more on other things. I haven’t found that in all the years of listening to this band that they have stuck to just one theme throughout their albums, it was always just a little bit of this and a little bit of that. But as I listen to Forget and Not Slow Down I find that this album focuses more on getting through emotional turmoil such as a bad break-up. Like the lead singer Matt Theissen says, “It’s hard to forget and move on emotionally, but sometimes it’s better for you. You have to keep the bigger picture in mind. If you’re feeling sorry for yourself or reflecting on things that aren’t good, you’re not being productive. So to move forward is to concentrate on ‘What can I do better?’ That’s the whole idea of the record.”
I would definitely say that Relient K had matured in their music, making a much better quality and sound. But if you are a fan of Relient K then you know that no matter where this band goes with their sound and quality, that you will follow them wherever. I truly do love this album, and feel that Relient K just gets better and better as the years go by. But, like I said before, it would’ve been amazing to hear a little bit more about God in these songs. Don’t get me wrong there are some great songs on this CD such as: “I Don’t Need a Soul”, “Over It”, “Sahara”, and “If You Believe Me”.
Over all I would give this CD two thumbs up. Relient K truly lives up to their amazing reputation with this album!

Have an amazing day,

Wagered Heart by Robin Lee Hatcher!

When Bethany Silverton left the genteel life of Miss Henderson’s School for Young Ladies
back in Philadelphia for the raw frontier town of Sweetwater, Montana, she had no idea how much she would enjoy the freedom and danger of this wild country.

A conservative preacher’s daughter, Bethany can’t resist the challenge of charming the most attractive cowboy in town into attending her father’s new church. She never dreamed that the cowboy would charm the lady.

But Hawk Chandler isn’t the only man vying for Bethany’s affections. Ruthlessly ambitious Vince Richards thinks Bethany is perfect for him: attractive, gracious, just the woman to help him become governor. And he is determined to get what he wants at any cost.

Drawn to one man, an obsession of another, Bethany’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil. She wagered her heart on love. Now she has gotten more than she bargained for—and the stakes are about to become life and death.

Wagered Heart by Robin Lee Hatcher is, from my view point, one of my favorite books I read this year. The story is a little slow at first, but like all good stories it gets better. If you decide to read this book, don’t get frustrated with it in the beginning because it’s well worth sticking with. Miss Hatcher definitely did a great job with this book, the story just amazing. I could really just go on and on about it. I actually read this book with a friend and it took everything I had to put it down after two chapters every night, in fact I think we changed it to four chapters a night after a while. This book is an amazing read and I highly recommend it. Robin Lee Hatcher had created the best of the best with Wagered Heart!

Have a great day and a wonderful month of October,
